Ecovoltaics at Colorado State University

Ecovoltaics defined:
An ecologically informed approach to solar development that co-prioritizes energy generation and ecosystem services during the design and management phases of photovoltaic energy facility development (Sturchio & Knapp 2023, Nature Ecology & Evolution).

Our core principles are:
1. That solar development should avoid ecosystems with high conservation or ecological value.
2. That the thoughtful implementation of ecovoltaics has the potential to restore and enhance ecosystem services in previously disturbed or overutilized lands.
